What makes anyone think this sort of perspective, important as it is, will make any difference whatsoever to the disloyal opposition even assuming they would pay any heed to an "extreme right winger" like the most marvelous V.D.H. MSM trumpeted bad news coming from Iraq aids their ascension back to power in a most satisfactory way whereas good news is entirely unwelcome and perspective be damned. If you think that's just partisan sniping please consider this thought experiment. If in a year Iraq was peaceful and on its way to being a prosperous consensual secular republic would any Democrat, with the possible exception of Joe Leiberman, leap with joy over the good fortune of the Iraqi people with no thought of what that might mean for their electoral aspirations?

You there! Stop that laughing!

EXACTLY!

Has there ever been a time in our history when half the country is so disgusted with the other half? And what, exaclty, will change/cure this short of civil war? Should Chicago be vaporized tomorrow the country will be properly horrified and unified--for 2 days--then sniping will resume and half will want Bush's head on a post. And might get it.
